Young People at St. Nicholas
The Ark
The Junior Church at St. Nicholas is known as the Ark and meet in the Barn at 10 am. The barn is next to the main church and is where coffee is taken after the services.
There are groups for the 0-6 year olds which incorporates a crèche facility, 7-11 year olds, whilst the young senior school age children have their own group.
The Ark runs on most Sundays: except once a month when it is "All-age Service" and everyone is in church together. This is usually the first Sunday of the month.
The Ark is led by Melanie Ryan supported by a team of group leaders on a rota basis. There is a quarterly planning meeting when all the leaders and the priest in charge get together to review Young Peoples' Ministry, as well as planning fun times.
What do we do?
The aim of the Ark is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to young people in an exciting and fun way. Christian scripture based material called ROOTS is used with the Ark groups each week.
From time to time we vary the pattern, meeting as one group in the Summer and during Advent. The young people also contribute to the main church ministry through drama, feed back from their sessions and other worship activities.
We also have a group called ZINC (Zany, Incredible, Nutty Christians) aimed at year 10 and 11 teenagers. They have their own meeting time during the week and organise social events for some of the older ARK members.
Child Safety Policy
The church operates a child safety policy whereby all leaders are appointed in line with Diocesan recruitment guidelines and all workers are subject to enhanced disclosure (police checks). Groups are led by at least two workers of which one has to be female.
